Is your website search engine optimized?
If you own your own domain name and website, these website issues listed
below will help you to get the best search engine rankings for your
website.
The issues we will be talking about are going to be inspected by the
search engine robots. The robots will go over your websites content and
look for these issues below to "grade" your web site.
TIP: The key is to think generically about your page. For
example, if you offer shoes for sale you might try "shoes," "men's
shoes," and "women's shoes," as your main keywords. If you offer brand
name shoes make sure you also add those into your site as well. (Nike,
Converse, Sketchers, etc...)
Here is a list of page issues and some tips on how to optimize your web
site for search engine robots.
#1. Page Issues
Page issues are problems we detect with the set up of your HTML code, or
page in general that could affect your ability to get listed properly in
the search engines.
Since all search engines use your page copy as a major factor in
determining how to list your site we recommend increasing the amount of
copy on the page before you submit. For best results, we recommend
having over 200 words of copy on any page you submit.
#2. Page Copy
The text on your page that a visitor would read (page copy) is also very
important. The search engines index this text and look for important
keywords when determining your listings. Therefore, it's important to
include any keywords you wish to show up for in the search engines in
your page copy.
Since search engines treat your readable text as one of the most
important parts of your page when determining your listing, we recommend
that you increase your use of your main keywords in your readable text
to at least 4 times prior to submitting. By "readable text" we mean the
text that a visitor to your web page would read.
#3. Image Alt Attribute
Any image on your page can have alternative text within its HTML. If
possible, it's a good idea to describe the image in its "alt" text using
your keywords since some search engines index that text.
While not extremely important including your main keywords in the "alt="
portion of one of your images can help your results in some search
engines.
#4. Spam Issues
"Spam" is any attempt to trick a search engine into improving your
search engine listing. Spamming is never a good idea because you risk
being permanently blocked from a search engine. However, you might not
always know that you are spamming, so we provide warnings for you here.
In proper HTML code their should only be one title tag per page. Since
the search engines may view multiple title tags as spam and block you
from being listed in their engines we do not recommend submitting this
page until you fix this issue.
When a robot find three or more commas in a row this often signifies a
keyword list (spam), which could result in your listing getting
penalized by the search engines. We recommend limiting the use of commas
in your description meta to no more than 3 for this reason.
#5. Meta Tags
Example of Meta Tags - These go between the < head > < / Head > section
at the top of your HTML.
